Signa AI Privacy Policy

Who we are

Signa AI is provided by Signa AI Ltd, Kigali, Rwanda. For any privacy question or request, contact our data-protection contact at privacy@usesigna.org.

Information we collect

• Account information you give us: your name, email address, phone number, and profile photo.
• Sign-in identifiers: when you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, we receive a basic profile (name, email) from that provider to create and secure your account.
• Text you submit for translation: the words you type into the app to be translated into sign language.
• Audio you submit for translation: we collect the audio you provide—either by recording it with your microphone in the app or by uploading an audio file—so that Signa AI can transcribe it into text and generate the corresponding sign-language animation. See “Translation content” below.
• Usage: your token balance and token-usage records. The app is free, so we do not collect any payment, billing, or purchase information.
• Device & log data: standard technical information (device type, app version, IP address, crash and diagnostic logs) used to operate and secure the service.

Translation content (audio & text)

What we collect: the text you type, and the audio you provide — either by recording it with your microphone or by uploading an audio file — when you ask the app to translate something.

How we use it: Signa AI processes the text you enter and the audio you provide solely to produce your translation. When audio is submitted, Signa AI first transcribes it into text and then generates the corresponding sign-language animation. We do not use this content for any other purpose, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Signa AI performs speech recognition and sign-language translation internally. Your translation text and audio are not sent to third-party AI services for transcription or translation.

Signa AI does not keep a history of the text or audio you translate on your account. Audio you submit for speech-to-text is used only to return the transcription and is not retained by Signa AI afterwards.

Browser extension

The Signa AI browser extension shows a signing avatar directly on web pages you choose to translate. This section explains exactly what it accesses.

What it captures — only when you start a translation. When you press “Translate this tab,” choose microphone mode, or select text and press “Sign,” the extension captures one of the following on that tab: the tab’s audio (the video you are watching), your microphone audio, the page’s on-screen captions, or the text you selected. This content is sent to Signa AI’s servers to be transcribed and turned into sign-language animation, and is not recorded or retained afterwards. Nothing is captured or transmitted until you actively start a translation.

Pages you visit. The extension can run on any site so that it is ready to translate wherever you are and to offer the “select text → Sign” option. It does not record, store, or transmit your browsing history or a list of the pages you visit.

Account connection (optional). If you connect the extension to your Signa AI account, it stores your account email, name, and an access token locally on your device (in the browser’s extension storage). The access token is used only to authenticate your own requests to Signa AI. Your language, avatar, and overlay preferences are also stored locally on your device.

The extension does not sell or share this data with third parties, and does not use it for advertising or any purpose unrelated to sign-language translation.

How we use your information

• To enable Signa AI to transcribe audio into text and generate sign-language animations from text.
• To provide sign-language translation and the signing avatar.
• To create, secure, and support your account.
• To manage your account and your token usage.
• To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service, and to keep it safe from abuse.
• To comply with our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. Signa AI performs speech recognition and sign-language translation internally. We do not share your translation text or audio with third-party AI services for those purposes.

• Authentication providers (Google, Apple, Facebook) when you choose to sign in with them.
• Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers used to securely host and operate Signa AI. These providers may process data only as necessary to provide hosting and related infrastructure services and may not use it for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information where required by law.

Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Records we are legally required to retain are kept for the period required by applicable law and then deleted. Aggregated or anonymized data that no longer identifies you may be kept to improve the service. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged within 30 days of deletion.

Your rights and choices

You can access and update your profile in the app, and you can delete your account and associated data at any time:

• Delete your Signa AI account (in the app, on the web, or by email).
• Delete specific data without closing your account.

To exercise any data-protection right, email privacy@usesigna.org. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.

Children

Signa AI is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you of any breach as required by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email.
